Posture is referred to as a neutral alignment of the spine. Something very few of us can still claim to have after years of abuse or injury to our spines. Chiropractic care can help improve your posture by realigning the spine to a neutral position. This is one of the major benefits of chiropractic care.
Effects of Good Posture
While most of us are aware that good posture can be beneficial, we may not be aware of some of the specific benefits such as:
- Good posture helps to maintain the correct alignment of your joints and bones, and minimize abnormal wear on joints.
- Good posture helps to maintain the correct alignment of your joints and bones, and minimize abnormal wear on joints.
- Good posture minimizes the chance of injury by decreasing the stress on ligaments.
- Good posture will decrease and eliminate muscle strain, pain, and overuse.
- Good posture helps muscles to work more efficiently, conserving energy
Effects of Poor Posture
The effects of poor posture can be seen everywhere in obvious ways. People with rounded or hunched shoulders, forward head carriage, rounded upper back, and arched lower back. Some of the less obvious ways that poor posture affects health, however, are depression, digestive issues, stress levels and low confidence. Back pain is always an indicator that something is not right with the spine and possibly elsewhere in the body. If you are experiencing back pain you should contact Dr. Westrick immediately for an examination.
How Does Poor Posture Happen?
There are a number of reasons why our posture becomes poor. Life events such as pregnancy can have an effect on posture. Obesity, stress, weak or overly tight muscles, and high-heeled shoes are some of the ways poor posture develops over time.
If you notice that you are developing poor posture, use that awareness to help combat further deterioration. Sit with your feet flat on the floor, choose a high-quality mattress, avoid wearing high-heeled shoes, stand with shoulders back and arms at your side, sit in a chair that offers lower back support, and get regular chiropractic adjustments.
May is posture month. Why not schedule an appointment with Dr. Westrick for a spinal examination now.
