If you’ve ever been involved in automobile accidents, you know that you might walk away unharmed and not feel any pain whatsoever or you might have pain that starts immediately afterward.
Scientists at the Toronto Western Research Institute wanted to find out what types of pain Canadian (Saskatchewan) residents who were involved in a motor vehicle accident had 30 days later and ran a study.
The study was quite a large study – 6481 people had been involved in automobile accidents and they were easy to find.
Now you may be thinking to yourself, well that is Canada; what are the statistics like in the U.S. where you live.
Actually in the U.S., according to the government’s census statistics, there were 33,808 deaths from automobile accidents within 30 days of the accident.
The top three states for deaths were California, Florida and Georgia, with 3081, 2558 and 1284 deaths respectively for the states in 2009.
There were 10.9 million motor vehicle accidents in the same year.
The Painful Results
The researchers of the Toronto study broke down the automobile accidents stats into how many had different types of pain.
Here’s what they found:
- 86% had pain in the back of their neck from the motor vehicle accident
- 72% had head pain
- 60% had pain in their low back
- 95% of the subjects in the study had some pain in the back of the neck, shoulder, mid-back, low back and buttocks
- Less than one half of one percent had pain only in the back of their neck
- 60% of the subjects had a pattern of pain that matched one of these four:
- pain from the waist up in the front of the body along with arm/hand pain
- pain in the head, back of the neck and from the waist up in the back
- low back pain
- pain from the waist down in the front of the body and in the leg/knee/foot from the motor vehicle accident
Where Do You Go From Here
There’s always good news along with the bad.
Those who were injured in automobile accidents always have options: medical treatment and chiropractic treatment.
There’s no reason to not get both.
The medical doctor can provide all the imaging studies needed for a good diagnosis and attend to any emergency issue from the motor vehicle accident.
Your chiropractor, though, can start to put you back together again and start healing all the soft tissue injuries, disk injuries, and whiplashes.
Chiropractic has a lot of healing in store for those recovering from motor vehicle accidents.
The force of the impact on the car gets transferred to those inside. This is why vertebrae will often go out of alignment after automobile accidents.
Your chiropractor will realign your spine so the nerve flow will continue to feed all the organs and tissues.
Research studies show that your need for painkillers will subside quickly when you’re under chiropractic care for automobile accidents.
It’s always a winning move to see your chiropractor!
